BYD Honors the First U.S. Transit Members of the “1 Million Zero-Emission Mile Club” – UPDATED

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (12/29/2020) – BYD announced Tuesday the inaugural members of the “Million Mile Club” — U.S. transit services that have logged over 1 million service miles with their fleets of zero-emission BYD battery electric buses.

BYD buses have achieved more than 15 million emission-free miles in revenue service throughout the United States. With more than 1,000 BYD battery-electric buses built or ordered for U.S. customers, the 1 Million Mile Club will quickly grow and members will reach new milestones while America does the work to “Build Back Better.”

Every American-built zero-emission BYD bus eliminates approximately 1,690 tons of CO2 over its 12-year lifespan, according to the U.S. Transportation Department. BYD buses exceed all the requirements of the Buy America Program

“BYD applauds this exemplary group for working on behalf of the health of their communities, creating cleaner air and enhancing service for their riders in safe and reliable U.S.-made buses,” BYD Vice President Patrick Duan said announcing the first class of award winners. “Congratulations.”

Each winner will receive a plaque commemorating their record-setting achievement and membership in the prestigious Million Mile Club. The transit services that have logged over 1 million miles of operations with reliable and safe BYD buses are:

Antelope Valley Transit Authority (3.4 million zero-emission miles), which serves northern Los Angeles County, was one of the first transit agencies to make the decision to go 100% battery-electric. AVTA has already converted its transit fleet to battery-electric technology and is in the process of converting its commuter bus fleet.

Stanford University (2.5 million zero-emission miles)
, began using BYD buses in 2014 on its free Marguerite Shuttle service, offered to students, faculty, staff, and the general public to get around campus and to off-campus locations such as shopping and medical services. Stanford continues to expand its zero-emission fleet.

Denver RTD (1.3 million zero-emission miles), bought BYD buses in 2016 for the city’s free 16th Street Mall service. BYD buses quietly transported passengers to restaurants, shops, theatre, galleries, tourist attractions, and businesses up and down the tree-lined mall.
