ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS – BYD, the world’s leading New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, has entered the electric truck market in Hungary with its full-range of pure-electric, zero-emission trucks.

These include the compact, very maneuverable ETP3 panel van and the versatile ETM6 cargo truck. The ETM6 is suited to a wide variety of logistical operations and offers the longest driving range of its class in the market.

BYD ETM6 Pure-Electric Truck

This coincides with BYD appointing Eurotrade as its first electric ruck dealer in Hungary. Eurotrade has a long and respected 30-year heritage in the commercial truck business, and now takes on the responsibility for sales and aftersales services in Hungary, offering the full range of BYD electric trucks in key weight sectors. Through its three key facilities in Szombathely, Mass; Kisigmánd, Esztergom and Kistarcsa, customers have the reassurance of a comprehensive aftersales and parts service within Hungary.

BYD is very much ‘at home’ in Hungary, having chosen Komárom as the location to open its first manufacturing eBus facility in Europe back in 2017. BYD Electric Bus & Truck Hungary Kft. is primarily involved with eBus assembly operations and associated new energy products. BYD strongly believes in meaningful partnerships, supporting local economies through employment opportunities, and continues to invest in such initiatives, embracing its philosophy ‘made in Europe for Europe’.

BYD ETP3 Pure-Electric eVan

BYD’s expertise in pioneering battery and electric vehicle technology delivers a longer driving range and battery life, with convenient rapid charging for optimal productivity. BYD is the first and only automotive manufacturer to produce its own powertrain system, batteries and motor control system, as part of integrated technology for increased reliability and ease of use.

Fully electric, these features combined have the added benefit of low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared with traditional trucks and provide a practical zero-emission solution to commercial carriers looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

Isbrand Ho, Managing Director, BYD Europe B.V., said: “We are delighted to see our BYD eTruck business make its debut in Hungary, a country that we are already very familiar with. There is exciting market potential in Hungary for our pure-electric, zero-emissions BYD eTrucks, at a time when the world is coming together to address climate change. BYD is committed to playing an active role in helping commercial transportation make the smooth transition to clean, pure-electric trucks that are safe, reliable and practical to operate.”

Orders for BYD eTrucks are already being taken by Eurotrade in preparation for delivery to customers in Hungary in 2022.

ROTTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS (1/12/2022) – BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles (NEV) and power batteries, has achieved another significant milestone – the delivery of over 70,000 battery-electric buses to customers worldwide.

It is just over a decade since BYD accomplished a ‘world-first’ when its pure-electric bus fleet first entered commercial operation, these buses have covered over 3.4 billion miles. The operation of BYD buses has reduced CO2 emissions by 3.8 million tons.

In Europe alone, BYD has delivered over 1800 electric buses, operating in over 100 major European cities across 20 countries, proving their practicality in all extremes of climatic conditions. Collectively, they have driven over 86 million miles140 million miles, reducing CO@ emissions by 150,000 tons.

BYD is firmly committed to its International ‘bus electrification’ strategies, prioritizing the value of collaborations with partners and suppliers around the world. BYD has had a presence in Europe for over a decade, starting as the first and only company to exhibit an electric bus at BusWorld in 2011. This marked the start of many successful working relationships with customers and supply partners, instrumental to BYD becoming a leading supplier of electric buses in Europe.

Ongoing investment and expansion continue at BYD’s electric bus factory in Hungary supporting its principle of ‘Made in Europe for Europe’. This expansion increases production capacity, with the annual output of a single shift rising to 400 electric buses to meet the ever-growing demand for BYD electric buses in Europe. The factory in Hungary facilitates the production of BYD’s complete electric bus range, from the 28-foot model to the 60-foot articulated model. It is from this facility where BYD also manufactures the chassis for single and double-decker electric buses destined for the UK market, with the capability of producing 300 units in a single shift.

BYD’s core technologies have been fundamental to its global achievements and recognition, established on the back of 26 years’ experience in battery research and development. BYD is the first and only electric bus manufacturer to produce its own powertrain system, battery, motors, and motor control system, which is beneficial to greater operational efficiencies and reliability.

The electric journey continues to evolve for BYD and extends beyond its electric bus operations. BARCELONA, SPAIN (11/25/2021) – BYD, the world’s leading battery-electric vehicle manufacturer, has been awarded its first order from Transportes Metropolitanos de Barcelona, S. A. (TMB) for 25 new generation 40-foot BYD electric buses. BYD pure-electric buses will operate in the City of Barcelona for the first time.

TMB’s Strategic Plan 2025 calls for phasing out diesel fuel vehicles to reduce air pollution in Barcelona. TMB previously conducted a test of a BYD electric bus in 2020, resulting in positive feedback. The adoption of clean energy vehicles in TMB’s fleet will see new buses put into service in Catalonia between 2022 and 2024.

All the zero-emission BYD electric buses will be equipped to allow for the convenience of opportunity charging at the bus depot for greater operational efficiency.

The buses will be built in BYD’s high-tech European production facility in Hungary, which opened in 2017 to support the expanding customer base in Europe.

Built to BYD’s latest specification, the award-winning 40-foot buses will have a range of innovative new features to enhance vehicle performance, as well as improving passenger and driver comfort. The buses will have BYD’s unique ‘6 in 1’ control system which integrates all the vehicle’s principle electronic components, including the battery, motor and motor controller. The system will improve reliability and lower cost of ownership.

BYD buses utilize the latest generation BYD Iron-Phosphate Battery Technology. The 442 kWh battery, with its increased energy density, provides a longer driving range and an extended battery life. A single charge delivers an impressive range of 250 miles. This is a primary reason why BYD buses are such a viable choice for many large public transport operators, such as TMB.

The buses will come equipped with FleetLink connectivity, BYD’s fleet management tool. FleetLink provides all the management tools to monitor performance parameters across the entire BYD bus fleet, complete with real-time vehicle status visibility.

Bus passengers in Barcelona can also look forward to experiencing BYD’s award winning ‘Home from Home’ concept, where design, materials and the latest cutting-edge technology come together to offer an exceptional level of comfort, safety and practicality.

The first of BYD’s buses on order from TMB are scheduled for delivery in 2022.

Isbrand Ho, Managing Director, BYD Europe B.V., said: “BYD is proud to be supplying TMB with our very latest zero-emission buses, and commend them for their proactive strategy for decarbonization to protect the beautiful city of Barcelona, and the people who live within it. They have the reassurance that BYD buses are equipped with world-leading technology with proven reliability and safety credentials, while also being modern, stylish and comfortable for passengers to enjoy their journey. We look forward to seeing BYD buses operating in Barcelona in 2022.”

Nobina welcomes 76 units to Helsinki after receiving 43 BYD eBuses for Turku in June

BYD, the world’s leading provider of electric buses, has successfully delivered an additional 76 BYD eBuses to major Nordic public transport operator, Nobina, for use in the Finnish capital, Helsinki. The fulfilment completes Finland’s largest ever electric bus order – a 119-unit order for Nobina – and represents BYD’s second-ever delivery to Finland following the arrival of 43 units to Turku in June.

The new Nobina fleet features BYD’s latest 50-foot  city eBus that debuted in European service in Turku. The operator is also receiving a broad range of eBus models, including 23 units of the best-selling 40-foot model, eight units of BYD’s recently updated 42-foot variant and 44 high-capacity 60-foot articulated buses.

Nobina and the Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (HSL) hosted an event to introduce the eBus range onto the streets of Helsinki on Aug. 10. Taking place at Nobina Finland’s headquarters, guests had the opportunity to participate in a tour of the local area onboard the new eBus fleet. Speeches were also made by Mårten Winqvist, Traffic Director at Nobina Oy and the Director of HSL’s Public Transport Department, Tero Anttila.

Representing more than half of the buses delivered to Helsinki, the 60-foot articulated eBus boasts a spacious interior capable of carrying 112 passengers and can charge up to 300kW through a roof-mounted pantograph, providing a convenient and efficient recharging process. In line with the units delivered to Turku, Helsinki’s 50-foot  eBus offers a 47+3 seating capacity and a total passenger capacity of 90 passengers. BYD’s latest generation Iron-Phosphate batteries fitted to the 50-foot eBus can deliver a single-charge range of 400km under SORT test conditions.

All of Nobina’s new 40-foot eBuses feature a tailor-made seat layout capable of carrying 72 passengers. Built at BYD’s European production facility in Hungary, the 23 new units of the popular bus reinforce its position as the marque’s best-selling model in Europe.

Each bus is equipped with a full driver cab surround and BYD’s own Battery Thermal Management System technology to maximise battery life and optimise driving range in the cold conditions often experienced in Finland. Similarly, to ensure that the ambient temperature on-board the bus is always comfortable, climate pre-heating is fitted for use on early morning starts.

119 BYD eBuses for Nobina further underscores BYD’s position as the Nordic region’s leading supplier of electric buses, with nearly 600 vehicles either delivered or on order with public transport operators in over 20 towns and cities throughout Scandinavia. Collectively, BYD vehicles in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland have covered more than 25 million kilometres, resulting in a 27,000-tonne reduction in CO2 emissions.

With its Scandinavian head-office based in Sweden, BYD’s presence in the Nordic market began in 2015 with the launch of its zero-emissions, pure-electric buses. This was followed in 2018 by the introduction of the first BYD pure-electric articulated buses in Oslo, Norway.

BYD electric buses are now a common sight across the region, with the marque’s popularity demonstrated through positive feedback from multiple PTAs and PTOs.

Petri Auno, the Managing Director of Nobina Finland, said that from mid-August Nobina will be the biggest electric bus operator in Finland, with more than 110 BYD full electric buses working across the Turku and Helsinki regions.

“I am happy and proud of this achievement,” Petri said. “We have had an extremely tight timeframe to deliver the buses and to build the infrastructure ready for operations to begin. With 100% commitment from all the parties, we have been able to hit this most challenging of targets.

“Although this is a big step for Nobina, our passengers and for the PTA’s in Finland, this is only the beginning. By this time next year, our ambition is to double the number of electric buses operated by Nobina in Finland. I want to thank BYD for their excellent, efficient service and hope that we can continue working together in the future.”

BYD Europe Managing Director, Isbrand Ho, said, “Nobina has historically been quick to embrace electric bus technology and our successful co-operation with the operator is allowing us to reach new cities and countries. The successful delivery of this major order has been achieved through an extremely efficient production process with an integrated approach throughout the BYD supply chain. We pride ourselves on the partnerships that we have with local businesses, to ensure the efficient, streamlined supply of products to our customers.

“Despite the significant challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic,” he added, “BYD was able to complete this eBus delivery on time. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Nobina as its new vehicles enter service in Helsinki.”
