Rotterdam, Netherlands – BYD reaches another significant milestone in its ‘electric journey’ into the European passenger car market as its 1000th Tang SUV sets sail to Norway.

As the world’s leading New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturer and pioneer in battery technology, BYD has recently shipped another batch, this being a further 450 units to fulfil customer demand for its pure-electric Tang SUV. BYD is planning for 1500 Tang SUVs to be delivered to Norway before the end of the year.

This comes after the successful launch in Norway following an initial shipment of 100 BYD Tang SUVs in June. The first customer handover event in August was hosted by RSA, BYD’s highly respected distributor in Norway. Through its 43 established dealers in key cities, RSA is providing sales, aftersales, parts and service support to BYD Tang customers throughout the country.

The pure-electric all-wheel-drive BYD Tang SUV

The exciting and stylish pure-electric all-wheel-drive Tang SUV features class-leading technology including its revolutionary 86.4kWh ultra-safe Blade Battery. Uncompromising in every way, from design to practicality and performance, the seven-seater Tang SUV has an unparalleled range of 528km (WLTP City) and 400km (WLTP combined) with an impressive acceleration of 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds. Rapid charging from 30% to 80% battery capacity can be completed in just 30 minutes using a 110 kW DC charger. In addition, customer peace of mind is backed up by an 8-year / 160,000km extended battery warranty. The BYD Tang comes equipped with all-wheel-drive as standard to provide great performance and safety in all weather conditions.

The BYD Tang has been styled by the world-renowned European car designer, Wolfgang Egger, to create a vehicle that encompasses the needs of a discerning modern family. Featuring sleek and sporting lines, the Tang presents a high tech, premium, and spacious interior blended with both comfort and functionality.

“BYD’s pursuit of the ‘European dream’ continues at a strategically important time when the sales of NEVs begin to surge in key markets across Europe. The timing couldn’t be more perfect,” commented Isbrand Ho, BYD Europe Managing Director. “We are delighted with the feedback we have been receiving following the launch of the Tang SUV in Norway, and this is just the start of our European journey. We strive to surpass customer expectations and the Tang is certainly achieving this. Customer satisfaction is, and always will be, our priority and we are dedicated to delivering an excellent service.”

On a global level, BYD is one of the first manufacturers to produce one million new energy vehicles. BYD NEV sales ranked among the top 3 according to EV sales data from January to July 2021, and based on NEV sales in July alone, BYD returned to its top-ranking position. Four consecutive months of surging sales records underpin BYD’s successful strategic deployment and the widespread acceptance of its products in the market.

With a presence in more than 300 cities across 50 countries and regions, BYD is striving to electrify all urban public transportation systems, to contribute to building low-carbon cities and bring a low-carbon lifestyle to people.

BYD is determined to make a difference to people’s lives and benefit mankind through its technology and innovation. As a strategic trajectory, BYD will continually identify new energy solutions to provide a cleaner world for future generations.

First Customer Receives Pure-Electric BYD Tang SUV at Launch Event

BYD and its local distributor RSA have today successfully launched the BYD Tang SUV in Oslo, Norway. A launch event was held in celebration of the first 100 BYD Tang SUVs to arrive in Norway, and to hand over the first vehicle to its owner.

BYD’s first consignment of passenger cars for Norway signals the start of the company’s ‘European dream’ at a strategically important time when sales of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) begin to surge in key markets across Europe. BYD is committed to delivering 1,500 units to Norway before the end of 2021, with the arrival of the Tang SUV on European shores the first step in an exciting journey.

Globally, BYD is one of the first companies to produce one million electric passenger cars, and is now established as the world’s leading NEV manufacturer across multiple industries.

BYD has 26 years of experience as a pioneer and expert in battery research, development and production. With electrification and battery technology at the heart of the business, BYD is the only EV manufacturer in the world to produce its own powertrain systems, batteries, drive motors and motor controller systems. These unique credentials will allow BYD to demonstrate its total solution capability within Europe’s growing EV markets. Thus, BYD is ‘electric by nature’.

Introducing the ultimate pure-electric all-rounder: the BYD Tang SUV

The pure-electric all-wheel-drive BYD Tang SUV is the embodiment of the company’s expertise, experience and vision.

The vehicle comes equipped with BYD’s revolutionary 86.4kWh Blade Battery, which boasts unparalleled technology, safety and performance. BYD’s Blade Battery charges from 30% to 80% in an impressively fast 30 minutes using a DC power output of 110kW. This ‘game-changing’ ultra-safe Blade Battery signals a new era for the EV industry.

Top-line performance figures for the BYD Tang SUV include a class-leading range of 528km (WLTP City) and 400km (WLTP combined), and acceleration from 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds. The BYD Tang SUV’s braking performance is equally impressive, with its Brembo front brakes and rear ventilated discs providing a braking distance of 36m from 100-0km/h.

Style-wise, BYD’s international design team, led by the renowned designer Wolfgang Egger, has blended European design flair with Eastern heritage to create a powerful, dynamic-looking SUV. The BYD Tang SUV represents a new design era for BYD, combining beauty, emotion and ‘inspiration in nature’.

On the inside, the BYD Tang SUV is as practical as it is stylish. With seven seats and cavernous 1,655L interior, the vehicle is equipped with a 12.8-inch rotatable touch screen, DIRAC Live function with 12 loudspeakers, 31-colour ambient lighting, premium ventilated leather seats with heating and position memory, and wireless phone charging capability.

Working in partnership to exceed customer expectations

BYD has a deserved reputation for exceeding customer expecations, and that extends far beyond its products. Working in partnership with the foremost Scandinavian distributor, RSA, the company is well positioned to deliver its customary high levels of sales, aftersales, parts and service support from RSA’s 43 established dealers in key areas across the country.

As with all BYD products, quality and reliability are guaranteed, but for added peace of mind, customers can enjoy an extended warranty of eight years / 160,000km on the high-voltage Blade Battery.

BYD’s expansion into the burgeoning European EV market could not come at a more important time, with decarbonistion at the forefront of political agendas and a growing demand from consumers for cleaner modes of transport.

“We are extremely excited at the prospect of supporting BYD and its pure-electric strategy in Norway,” said Frank Dunvold, CEO of RSA, “We have one of the most well-established networks in the Nordic region, and our reputation for service and customer support is second-to-none. Our comprehensive network of dealers is our key strength – each fully focused on delivering the very highest levels of service back-up. The BYD marque represents a fantastic addition to our portfolio of leading car brands,” he said, “further underlining our position as one of Scandinavia’s leading car distributors.”

Pere Brugal, BYD Europe Passenger Car Director, said, “Officially welcoming the BYD Tang SUV into the Norwegian market and delivering the first units to customers marks an important step in European sales strategy. Our aim for this market is to always exceed customer expectations, to demonstrate that the BYD Auto brand is ‘customer connected’ and to expand into more customer segments”.

Isbrand Ho, BYD Europe Managing Director, said, “What better place to begin our European dream than Norway – a market that has adopted electric vehicles like no other. BYD, like the Norwegian people, believes in a future with reduced CO2 emissions and better air quality for everyone. We are committed to delivering pure-electric, zero-emissions passenger vehicles into the European market,” he said, “and, of course, our customers can rest assured that our cars are at the cutting edge of technology and performance”.

First 100 pure-electric BYD Tang SUVs head to Norway with plans to deliver 1500 cars in 2021

BYD is celebrating a significant production milestone by becoming one of the first new energy vehicle manufacturers globally to produce one million electric passenger cars. The one-millionth car, the Han EV, rolled off the production line today at BYD’s headquarters and manufacturing facility in Shenzhen.

At a special ceremony, VIPs from government departments, industry associations, BYD’s partners and suppliers, more than 400 media guests, and about 100 BYD vehicle owners, gathered to mark the occasion.

The landmark moment in BYD’s history coincides with the announcement that the first batch of 100 pure-electric BYD Tang SUVs are now ready for delivery to Norway – with the Scandinavian country selected as the platform for BYD’s ambitious plans in the European passenger car market. BYD also announced that a total of 1500 Tang SUVs will be delivered to Norway before the end of the year as the company commits to accelerating its European and global strategies. The initial 100 cars are scheduled for delivery to Norwegian customers in the third quarter of this year.

BYD’s one-millionth new energy passenger car rolls off the production line

BYD’s pioneering work in the development of battery technology and new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturing has led the new energy revolution in the global automotive industry since the company’s emergence in 2003 – spearheaded by innovative technologies and a well-calibrated global business strategy. In 2004, BYD unveiled its all-electric concept car, the ET, at the Beijing Auto Show, marking the premiere debut of an NEV model. This was followed in 2008 when the world’s first mass-produced plug-in hybrid NEV – the F3DM – was officially unveiled. Then, in 2020, the BYD Han was launched with performance specs setting twelve records globally and nine in China. The BYD Han continues to be a top-selling model in the mid-to-large luxury sedan sector, and with the credentials to rival models from the three German luxury car giants.

“BYD shoulders the responsibility and mission of upward development for China’s new energy vehicle brands,” said Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD Co., Ltd. “From zero to one million vehicles, this is BYD’s response to the call for global auto industry transformation. It also sets a benchmark in the journey of the new energy vehicle industry in China starting from nothing, alongside the greater national journey for a country dominated by traditional automobiles to one that is a leader in the field of sustainability.”

Customers first and foremost

“The journey to one million vehicles would not be possible without the support of car owners every step of the way,” he added, “and BYD recognises that the ‘green dream’ can only be achieved hand-in-hand with all our customers.”

With this close relationship with customers in mind, BYD has invited ten of its NEV customers to attend the ceremony, including the owners of the 100,000th and the one-millionth vehicles to join BYD as it celebrates its work in helping move towards a better, more sustainable future.

In the central square of BYD’s global headquarters, another eighty BYD car owners assembled their vehicles in a specially choreographed display forming the number ‘1,000,000’ to help celebrate the milestone.

First 100 BYD Tang SUVs head for Norway with 1500 units scheduled in 2021

Alongside news of the production of its one-millionth passenger car line, BYD has also confirmed its entry into the European market with the first 100 pure-electric BYD Tang SUVs on their way to Norway. The northern European country has been selected to kick off BYD’s journey towards a successful presence in the burgeoning NEVs market in Europe.

With Rolf Petter Almklov, Commercial Counsellor, Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beijing, alongside Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD, the first batch of 100 Tang SUVs will be shipped at the end of May and delivered to local customers in Norway during the third quarter of this year. Also before the end of 2021, BYD plans to deliver a total of 1500 Tang SUVs to Norway, underlining a significant commitment from BYD to its new Scandinavian market and its European neighbours.

With decarbonisation high on the political agenda in Europe, BYD’s entry into the passenger car market comes at an important time. The BYD Tang EV provides serious competition for the more established European brands, with its stylish design and new technologies providing a compelling proposition for new car buyers. Central to its technology credentials is the new ultra-safe, space-saving Blade Battery, with performance figures including a class-leading range of up to 505km (NEDC) and acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 4.6-seconds from its 86.4 kWh capacity.

BYD describes its new business in Norway as the ‘start of the European dream’ with respect to its passenger car ambitions. A key differentiator for BYD is its commitment to bringing only pure-electric, 100% emissions-free cars to market – a strategy supported by BYD’s electric bus product range and its leading position in eBus markets right across Europe.

Working side-by-side with leading supply-chain partners to forge the way

The key to realising BYD’s dreams has been the support of leading supply-chain partners. At today’s ceremony, Wang Chuanfu made special reference to ZF Friedrichshafen AG, Fuyao, Valeo and others, while stating BYD’s intention to join hands with even more partners in a joint endeavour to lead the transformation of the global automotive industry and to forge the way ahead for electrification.

The replacement of the internal combustion engine with new energy vehicles – and specifically battery electric vehicles – is crucial for reducing dependence on fossil fuels, ensuring national energy security, and further achieving the goal of ‘peak carbon by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060’. As a principal participant and major force in the new energy automotive industry, BYD will continue to work with partners, suppliers and customers, to push ahead and realise the dream of green travel.

Shenzhen, China – Today, BYD proudly announces that its best-selling Han EV has won this year’s iF Design Award, a world-renowned design prize. The Han EV stood out against nearly 10,000 other works participating in the hotly contested product design category, becoming the first ever sedan model from a Chinese car brand to take home the award.

Ninety-eight members of the jury from across the world closely judged this selection, speaking highly of the Han EV: “The BYD Han EV gives urban residents a healthy, safe, and environmentally friendly solution for family travel and commuting in China. Taking inspiration from the imagery of traditional Chinese culture, the Han has a bold and aggressive exterior and a luxurious interior design which reinterprets unique Chinese aesthetics. The Han’s excellent performance (accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 s) combined with the intelligent internet interaction makes driving more exciting.”

The iF Design Awards are held annually since 1953. It is known for its evaluation philosophy being “independent, rigorous, and reliable,” aimed at finding innovative, bold, and imaginative designs for the future.

As the flagship of the BYD Dynasty series, Han EV is well-matched with the aesthetic sense and stylings of Chinese people. It adopts BYD’s EV Dragon Face design language, and inherits Chinese culture into the comprehensive vehicle design. In the layout and details of its interior, Han EV has absorbed the concept of Chinese aesthetics and the essence of classical luxury design, using Nappa leather, genuine wood, and aluminium along with other advanced materials, reflecting the pursuit of balance, nature, and perfection.

The Han EV matches marvellous design with excellent functions. The Han EV four-wheel drive high-performance version is the fastest-accelerating mass-produced new energy car in China. In terms of safety, the ultra-safe Blade Battery carried by Han EV has passed the battery industry’s most extreme nail penetration test. In terms of vehicle intelligence, the Han comes with the DiLink 3.0 Network-Linked Intelligent System and DiPilot Intelligent Driving Assistant System, and can be updated via the over-the-air (OTA) technology.

Well received by the Chinese market, the Han boasts continuously rising sales since its launch in July 2020. Its sales volume has achieved over 10,000 monthly for 4 months in a row, and its cumulative sales volume has exceeded 60,000 units, making it a best-sell China’s auto brand in the mid-to-large sedan market. These all confirm that the Han is widely recognized by various authorities and the market in terms of both the interior design and its sheer power, highlighting its leading market position as a new energy vehicle equally matching safety, high performance and luxury.

BYD announced the official launch of its Han EV series, the brand’s long-awaited flagship offering for the global mid-to-large luxury sedan market, including three pure electric models and one hybrid model.

The Han EV will be sold in China at first. Its extended-range version will sell at 229,800 RMB (approximately $32,800), the extended-range variant of the premium model will be priced at 255,800 RMB (about $36,500), and the 4WD high-performance version will sell at 279,500 (about $40,000) RMB. Besides, the PHEV version, Han DM, will sell at 219,800 yuan (about $31,400).

Integrating the most advanced technologies in the electric vehicle industry, the Han boasts formidable performance combined with stylish craftsmanship. As the world’s first mass-produced model that uses BYD’s ultra-safe Blade Battery, the Han EV sets new standards for EVs worldwide in terms of safety, performance and luxury.

BYD’s long-awaited Han EV series

With BYD being no stranger to pioneering in the industry, the Han series continues to break new ground. The Han EV’s long-range pure electric version has a remarkable single-charge range of 605 kilometers (376 miles) based on the NEDC test cycle. The four-wheel-drive high-performance version possesses an acceleration of 0 to 100km/h (approximately 62 mph) in just 3.9 seconds, making it China’s fastest EV in production, while the DM (Dual Mode) plug-in hybrid model offers 0 to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds, making it the country’s fastest hybrid sedan.

The Han series will create a new global standard for EV technology and quality, shaking up the traditional luxury car market while accelerating the global shift to electric vehicles. Named after one of the most celebrated dynasties in Chinese history, the Han series also demonstrates the country’s growing manufacturing prowess.

Mr. Wang Chuanfu, President of BYD Co., Ltd., said, “The Han has taken ten years from the concept stage to formal mass production,” which he likened to “ten years of sharpening a brilliant sword”. He added, “Through our leading technologies, we have created three benchmarks for flagship EVs in terms of safety, performance, and luxury.”

The Han series sets new standards for EVs worldwide with its safety, performance, and luxury

The Han EV has redefined safety standards for energy vehicles as it is the world’s first vehicle to use BYD’s ultra-safe Blade Battery, making it twice as safe compared to EVs using traditional ternary lithium battery packs. The Han’s DM is powered by a “seven-dimensional quad-layer” safety matrix that offers the world’s safest battery safety system with its ability to remain stable at high temperatures. The Han’s roof uses advanced laser brazing technology, while its 1500HS thermoformed steel is the most ever used for any comparable Chinese automobile. Other notable safety features include 11 standard airbags and six cameras, highly-efficient air purification filters, and more.

In terms of performance, the Han series comes with the world-first MOSFET motor control module, which fuels the car’s record-breaking 3.9 second 0-100km/h acceleration. At the same time, Han’s braking distance requires only 32.8 meters from 100km/h to a standstill. The Han EV’s extended-range version’s impressive 605-kilometer cruising range also gives it the world’s highest energy recovery rating, while a double silver-coated windshield and other energy-saving measures meet the real needs of users over its lifetime. The Han DM hybrid model comes with 81 kilometers of pure-electric cruising range and over 800 kilometers of integrated range, along with five different power modes.

The Han also sets a new benchmark for EV luxury. BYD’s new Dragon Face design language blends the best of Eastern and Western design aesthetics. From its striking front grille, its Dragon Claw tail lights and other features, the car’s stylized design creates a striking, confident vehicle that defines a new era for Chinese-made luxury vehicles. The interior is equipped with solid wooden panels, high-quality Napa leather seats, aluminum trims and other high-end materials rarely used in other high-end luxury vehicles.

The Han EV brings even smarter luxury to sedans

The Han’s luxury is matched by its intelligence, with smart features like the NFC mobile phone key function, allowing users to easily unlock the vehicle even if their phone is out of power or has no signal.

Moreover, the Han comes with the latest version of BYD’s DiPilot intelligent driving assistance system, including a wide array of safety features like an adaptive stop-and-go cruise-control system (ACC-S&G), a forward-collision warning system (FCW), a pedestrian identification and protection system, a lane departure warning system (LDWS), traffic sign identification, and much more. The Han can be upgraded with even higher-level functions including BYD’s ICC Intelligent Navigation System, the ICA Integrated Adaptive Cruise System, and the TJA Traffic Congestion Assistance System. In addition, the extended-range premium and 4WD high-performance models provide blind spot monitoring, lane-change assistance, rear collision early warning and other leading functions, which can be upgraded to a comprehensive automatic parking function.

DiPilot also comes with the DiTrainer mode, which selectively turns on assisted driving based on factors such as driving behavior, road conditions, weather, and even driving age. The DiLink 3.0 Smart Network system comes with smart voice upgrades and a DiUI upgrade, with a 15.6-inch Ultra HD 8-core adaptive rotary suspension PAD, bringing the even smarter luxury sedan.

The Han EV reflects not only some of the world’s top automobile technology but also the benefits of BYD’s rich experience in the research and development of EVs. This has allowed the brand to not only break into China’s high-end sedan market but also other fiercely competitive markets. With its formidable performance, fantastic safety and its representation of a new generation of luxury, the Han is a powerful offering that upgrades the standing and capabilities of Chinese automobiles and electric vehicles around the world.
