PRESS RELEASE

Press Release: Samba Energy Selects BYD Solar Systems

October 18, 2011 by

BYD SolarSolar Power International 2011
October 18, 2011 02:31 PM Eastern Daylight Time

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, at the Solar Power International 2011 convention in Dallas Texas, Samba Energy announced that they’ve chosen BYD solar panels and inverters for use immediately in 1.2 Mega-Watts (MW) of solar installations in the North East and Pacific regions. This initial partnership includes equipment for a few select schools and commercial buildings and will be expanded to 10 MW by Q1 of 2012.

“Samba Energy is proud to be working with BYD on this first phase of projects in the United States,” said Michael Hidary, Managing Director of Samba Energy. “The strength and stability of BYD solar products will ensure clean reliable energy for our clients for decades to come.”

BYD also took the opportunity to announce that they have introduced “Narrow bus bar, Electroplate, Selective-Emitter” or “NES” technology into their standard solar-cell production processes which effectively reduces the resistance and the shaded area on the front side of solar cells. BYD’s NES technology can improve quantum efficiencies and short wave responses of BYD solar products increasing the effective solar cell average efficiency to over 17.4% in standard production. NES technologies are considered cutting-edge in the solar power industry, however, only a few companies have realized these break-through advances in mass production. BYD’s China facilities are fully automated and they have set up solar cell and solar panel production lines separately in Shanghai and Shangluo, PRC. At present, BYD has over 1GW capacity for wafer and solar cells.

“BYD is excited to have secured this contract with Samba Energy and plans to continue to design innovative break-through products which provide better, more cost effective solutions for our renewable energy future,” said Stella Li, President of BYD America. “We also plan to build a US assembly plant which will create more green jobs right here in the US eventually.”

Press Release: BYD and Hertz Partner to Bring the First EV Rentals to China

August 26, 2011 by

Hertz EVAugust 26, 2011 01:18 AM Eastern Daylight Time

SHENZHEN, China–(BUSINESS WIRE)–BYD, the largest Chinese domestic auto brand and The Hertz Corporation, the world’s largest general use car rental brand, today announced a strategic partnership to promote new energy applications to propel the development of the EV markets in China. In addition, as part of the partnership, Hertz will rent BYD’s e6 electrical vehicle (EV) to Chinese consumers, municipalities and government agencies. Mark Frissora, Chairman and CEO of Hertz stated, “Hertz is once again first to market with innovation. We are the first global car rental company to offer EVs in China for businesses and consumers to rent. With our partnership with BYD, we can offer a complete solution including rental and sales – another first for our industry.” Chuanfu Wang Chairman and CEO of BYD stated, “Innovation is a consistent theme for Hertz and innovation is also the core of BYD’s continuous fast growth — pure EVs for car rental in China is an innovative step for new energy industry development. This joint innovation for our two large enterprises in the field of pure EVs will certainly bring ‘green’ transportation to the forefront for the world to admire.”

As part of this agreement, the BYD’s e6, a 5-seat, pure-electric vehicle with the driving range of more than 186 miles (240 km) will be introduced into the Hertz China’s rental fleet making BYD’s e6 the first pure EV for rent in China. The core technology of BYD’s e6 is BYD’s internally developed Iron-Phosphate or “FE” battery technology. The FE battery boasts the highest safety, longest service life and most environmentally-friendly rechargeable chemistry (containing no heavy metals or toxic/flammable electrolytes). The BYD e6 has been in use in Shenzhen taxi fleets for over a year now – the first fleet of 50 e6 taxis have now surpassed 2.5 million cumulative fleet miles (4 million km) without energy or range degradation and while being fast-charged daily the entire length of service. 300 more BYD e6s were added to these fleets in July for the2011 Shenzhen Universiade and are performing flawlessly.

BYD’s e6 will serve in Hertz’s fleet for multiple groups of Hertz consumers including urban drivers, university students, travelers, and corporations, while bringing them a brand-new environmentally-friendly, EV driving experience. See more atwww.facebook.com/bydcompany and www.byd.com

Press Release: BYD Signs the World’s Largest Public Electric-Vehicle Fleet Lease

July 25, 2011 by

E6 EBUSJuly 25, 2011 02:42 PM Eastern Daylight Time

SHENZHEN, China–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, BYD and Shenzhen’s Major Public Bus Operations signed a series of leasing contracts establishing BYD as the exclusive provider of pure-electric auto and bus for the 2011 International Universiade Games. With the launch of the “New Energy Automobile Demonstration”, previously announced May 11th, 2011, BYD began delivering eBUS’s (see video link) to several Shenzhen public bus operations at the end of July. With 200 of BYD’s all-electriceBUS’s and 300 of BYD’s all-electric e6’s (a 5 passenger sedan that serves well as an eTaxi), this new energy fleet now becomes the largest of its kind in the World. Chuanfu Wang, the Chairman and President of BYD Co., Ltd., signed on behalf of BYD at a formal ceremony attended by Shenzhen Government Officials today with representatives from Shenzhen Bus Group, Shenzhen Eastern Bus Group and Shenzhen Western Bus Co.

After the conclusion of the international multi-sport events at the 2011 Universiade Games, the eBUS’s and eTaxi’s will continue serving as public transportation for Shenzhen City. BYD’s eBUS is unique for its very-low-passenger-entry floor with in-wheel motor drive system and Iron-Phosphate (or “FE”) battery technologies, both developed independently by BYD. The BYD Iron-Phosphate batteries used in both the eBUS and the e6 are unmatched in high-safety, long-service life, and environmental-friendliness. With these advances in pure electric technology, the BYD eBUS and e6 have a city driving range of more than 250 KM with air conditioning and 300 KM without, a value commensurate with Shenzhen’s public transport demand. According to Shenzhen organizers, “the operation of BYD’s eBUS’s and eTaxi’s reflect our vision of ‘green and low-carbon’ for both the Universiade and promotes Shenzhen’s leadership role in the new-energy automobile era.”

e6 and eBUS fleet testing have been extremely successful for over a year for the e6 and half-a-year for the eBUS and is referenced in the “BYD Fleet Summary” released April 29th, 2011. The all-electric test fleet using the eBUS has now logged over 68,601 all-electric miles (>43K Km) with the eBUS predominantly charged off-peak at multi-use public station terminals, and utilizing the lowest night-time energy rates. The all-electric e6 Taxi fleet has now logged over 2,267,298 all-electric miles (>3.6M Km) with rapid-charge-times averaging 20 minutes – for more information email pr@byd.com.
