PRESS RELEASE

BYD Delivers First Batch of Electric Buses to Mexico

January 3, 2024 by

Mexico City, Mexico – Recently, BYD Mexico delivered the first batch of 20 electric buses to Mexico City Metrobús, putting them into operation. This collaboration involves a total of 55 pure electric buses, marking the largest electric bus fleet delivered in a single shipment in Mexico thus far. Dr. Martí Batres Guadarrama, Head of Government of Mexico City; Andrés Lajous Loeza, Secretary of Mobility of Mexico City; Rosario Castro Escorcia, General Director of the Mexico City Metrobús; Alberto Adib Carrera, Institutional Promotion Executive of Nacional Financiera, Adrián Escamilla, CCA Executive Director, Airport Center Corridor, Rafael Burgos, Director of Enel X, and Ray Zou, Country Manager of BYD Mexico, attended the delivery ceremony.

The buses will be put into operation on Mexico City’s Line 4, helping the city realize a green transportation transition. Mexico City Line 4 is 35 kilometers long, with 40 stations, and will meet the daily commuting needs of about 120,000 passengers every day. The 55 BYD electric buses in operation will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5,845 tons per year compared to traditional fuel vehicles, contributing to the improvement of air quality in Mexico City.

The BYD electric buses delivered are 15 meters long, with a low floor, making it easy for passengers to board and alight; they have a maximum capacity of 130 passengers, a range of 200 kilometers, a battery capacity of 300 kWh, and a charging time of as little as three hours. Electric buses run quietly, helping to reduce noise pollution. Additionally, this batch of electric buses provides barrier-free facilities and equipment, especially for people with disabilities, and lowers the suspension height to offer a convenient and comfortable barrier-free traveling experience for passengers with special needs. To ensure public safety, the electric buses are equipped with communication systems connected to the control center.

Rosario Castro Escorcia, General Director of the Mexico City Metrobús, said, “Zero-emission, sustainable solutions for transportation operations are essential. Since 2018, we have been working on transportation technology reforms, and this partnership with BYD is an important expression of the transition to electrification of Mexico’s public transportation system.”

Diverse Customers Announce Plans to Purchase BYD Battery Electric Buses in Canada

November 14, 2023 by

Toronto, ON (Nov. 14, 2023) — York University and Attridge Transportation in Ontario recently announced procurement awards for four Dreamer (commercial shuttle) Type D Battery Electric Buses from BYD Canada. Each customer will receive two BYD battery electric vehicles in coming months.

BYD has, for over a decade, been at the pinnacle of electric bus innovation and is committed to inspiring zero emission eMobility on a global scale.

The Government of Canada Incentives for Medium-Heavy-duty Zero-Emission Vehicles (iMHZEV) Program is helping BYD Canada customers to adopt our clean technology. “We are pleased to receive these awards and believe they are the first of many to come.” said Paul Bottrill, BYD Vice President for Public Transit Solutions. “It’s rewarding as this is such a highly competitive market segment that has seen little change in the last half-century.”

In October 2023, BYD introduced its latest generation of electric buses to the European market. The BYD pure-electric bus integrates the ultra-safe Lithium Iron Phosphate Blade Battery within the chassis structure. This ground-breaking Blade Battery Chassis technology also utilizes a new 6-in-1 controller with Silicon Carbide technology, together with two innovative wheel hub hairpin motors.

Combined, these bring a multitude of benefits to buses made by BYD including enhanced energy efficiency, performance and durability. The Blade Battery, with a maximum capacity of 500kWh, delivers an exceptional range of 600 km in one charge reducing the need for regular charging, making the BYD product an excellent choice for busy bus routes.

Worldwide, BYD has sold more than 85,000 battery electric buses, and over 5 million battery and hybrid automobile units.

“In Canada, our current customer base will be our strongest advocates, we are certain of this,” Bottrill said. “Drivers love BYD vehicles, We look forward to building Canada’s eMobility fleets.”
