San José, Costa Rica – BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles, and its Costa Rican distributor Cori Motors recently debuted two models from the Ocean Series, BYD Dolphin and BYD Seal, along with four other models, at EXPOMOVIL 2023, a celebrated local auto show, displaying a rich matrix of BYD’s new energy vehicles and attracting a large number of fans and customers.
The debut of BYD’s Ocean models injects new momentum into the Costa Rican electric vehicle market. Both models feature a design language inspired by ocean aesthetics and take on a refreshingly vibrant look. As a five-seater luxury sedan, BYD Seal is a much sought-after NEV with its sophisticated and sleek design. As the first model equipped with CTB technology, BYD Seal has outstanding advantages in terms of aesthetics, safety, handling, and efficiency. BYD Dolphin, the compact hatchback, features a futuristic design with a unique stance.
“With 15 years of experience in car distribution Cori Motors has become the number one seller of electric vehicles in the market”, said Pedro Dobles, General Manager of Cori Motors. “The two Ocean Series models unveiled this time are outstanding in terms of performance and safety, providing local consumers with more diverse choices of EV models.”
Other BYD models such as HAN EV, TANG EV, and best-sellers like YUAN PRO and YUAN PLUS were also on display at the event. It is noteworthy that BYD YUAN PRO (locally known as S1 PRO) SUV is the best-selling electric vehicle ever in Costa Rica, ranking sixth in terms of total units sold across the Costa Rican auto market (including gasoline-powered vehicles).
Zhang Jin, Sales Manager of BYD for Central America and the Caribbean Region attended the event and introduced the two Ocean Series models to local consumers. In regard to the cooperation with Cori Motors, she believed that both parties are working together based on the same vision to help promote the electrification of transportation in Costa Rica and support BYD’s initiative to Cool the Earth by 1°C .
During the exhibition, local KOLs such as Jorge Martinez, a prestigious sports channel anchor, and Yokasta Valle,, a Costa Rican professional boxer and the IBF female mini flyweight World Champion, were also invited to interact with the visitors, making BYD the most visited NEV booth at the show.
BYD has to date sold more than 2,000 NEVs since its entry into Costa Rica. As of 2022, BYD was the No.1 NEV seller in the country for three years in a row. In the future, BYD will intensify cooperation with local dealers to optimize the local sales and service systems, provide better experiences to Costa Rican users, and help accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility in the region.
