Work SMARTER | BYD Forklifts
BYD Starts as electronics manufacturer
Founded in 1995 as a battery manufacturer, BYD set out to design the most efficient and powerful batteries on the market. BYD opened its doors with 20 employees working from offices in an industrial park in Shenzhen, China. By 1998, the company had expanded, opening the doors at its first European subsidiary.
byd starts forklift division
Entering the forklift industry in 2010, BYD began its revolution in the world of electric forklifts. With innovative and environmentally-friendly lithium iron phosphate batteries BYD forklifts run longer and charge faster than those relying on lead acid batteries. They are also completely maintenance free, eliminating the need to halt operations for watering and battery equalization. This results in reduced downtime, ensuring your operation can continue to run smoothly throughout the day.
opens in European Market
2008, Mid-American Energy holdings, a subsidiary of Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway acquires 225,000,000 shares of BYD on the Hong King Stock Exchange.
Factory passed ISO9001 certification
In 2014 BYD Shaoguan Industrial Park held a grand opening event, displaying its assembly line of the world's first iron battery-powered BYD electric forklift.
Launches Japan & Australia market
BYD started selling forklifts in Japan in 2015 and has sold around 300 units since then. BYD opened a direct sales outlet in Japan in 2020.
opens in North America
BYD begins selling its Battery Electric Forklifts in the United States growing dealerships and creating new partnerships
wins International Forklift of the Year
BYD is awarded the prestigious IFOY Award at CeMAT 2016, the world’s leading trade fair for intralogistics and supply chain management. BYD was selected by an international jury from economic, science and technical media, who bestowed the award upon BYD in recognition of BYD’s sustainable battery technology.
North American Headquarters
In June of 2020, BYD opened a 50,000 square foot facility in Rancho Dominguez, California. BYD’s newest California facility is dedicated to BYD forklifts, offering warehouse space for products and parts, modern offices, and facilities for demos and training.
Iron Phosphate VS
lead acid BATTERIES
BYD Iron Phosphate Battery Systems are designed and manufactured to provide safe, consistent and reliable energy in the most demanding applications. BYD's Iron Phosphate chemistry was originally designed for utility-scale energy systems that require up to 30 years of service. This extremely stable and reliable battery chemistry is capable of cycling thousands of times with minimal degradation, making it ideal for heavy duty electric forklift applications.
Iron Phosphate VS internal combustion forklifts
BYD’s forklifts that utilize safe non-toxic lithium iron phosphate batteries, create a better work environment with less noise, air pollution and vibration than those where forklifts rely on internal combustion engines. BYD battery electric forklifts also have fewer parts, lowering maintenance costs.
BYD’s 110-volt “plug and play” charger creates a new charging solution for customers who may not use their forklift across an entire 8-hour shift. Instead of wrestling with a cumbersome 480-volt charging system, customers can plug their forklift charger into a standard wall socket just like a small appliance.
The BYD Lithium Iron Phosphate battery brings a revolution to the forklift industry, with the ultimate goal of providing a cheaper, cleaner and safer solution to the material handling industry. BYD’s revolutionary technology does not emit flammable gases. BYD batteries don’t contain corrosive acid or polluting heavy metals, making them both safe and environmentally friendly.
