California Women’s Legislative Caucus Honors BYD Motors President Stella Li As “Woman of the Year”
SACRAMENTO – March 12, 2018 – Stella Li, President of BYD Motors, was honored by the California Legislative Women’s Caucus with their Woman of the Year award. Assemblymember Ed Chau nominated Ms. Li, a resident of the San Gabriel Valley, as the Woman of the Year for the 49th Assembly District. The 49th Assembly District includes the cities and communities in Alhambra, Arcadia, El Monte, Montebello, Monterrey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, San Marino, South El Monte, and Temple City.
The Woman of the Year event was founded in 1987 by Assemblymembers Bev Hansen (R) and Sally Tanner (D), who noticed that the California Legislature had no events planned for Women’s History Month. Hansen and Tanner arranged an invitation for one woman from each Senate and Assembly district to be honored for their accomplishments in a formal ceremony at the Capitol.
“I am recognizing Ms. Li for her achievements as a high-ranking executive at BYD, the world’s largest manufacturer of electric vehicles, and for her long-term commitment to the development and expansion of clean and renewable energy technology, which has resulted in the creation of jobs in California and internationally,” said Assemblymember Ed Chau. “She exemplifies success for women in leadership roles and entrepreneurship.”
“I am honored to stand with such an exceptional group of women today. I am truly inspired by the leadership, vision and accomplishments of all my fellow awardees and of the members of the Women’s Legislative Caucus,” said Stella Li. “I am deeply grateful to Assemblymember Ed Chau for including me as the nominee from his district. Throughout my career, I have focused on how I can achieve excellence for my company, my community and myself. I located BYD’s North American headquarters and electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Los Angeles County because of our policymakers’ climate change leadership. I share the values of the Women’s Legislative Caucus to create a sustainable future for all our families, and I’m excited to continue the hard work of change exemplified by the women here today.”
Under Ms. Li’s leadership, BYD has achieved exponential international market growth in Europe, North America and Latin America to become a dominant global force in electric vehicles, renewable energy and consumer electronics. As the architect of BYD’s thriving expansions in the Americas, Ms. Li established the company’s North American headquarters in Los Angeles in 2011 and its manufacturing base for electric buses, trucks and energy modules in Los Angeles County in 2013. The company supports more than 800 full-time workers throughout California.
